JEREMY TODD presents a new NOT SENT LETTERS SET featuring digital projection, scoring by BEN WILSON and letters selected and read from the project archive by SEAN ARDEN, SARAH SHAMASH & ANDREW WITT:

ANDREW WITT, a Vancouver-based art historian, contributes to NSL&G for the first time with the letter “I tried the door and it was unlocked …”. Written during a research trip to Los Angeles, Witt’s letter discusses the collaborative photography of Maya Deren and Alexander Hammid, the art writings of Marcel Proust, the memoirs of Christa Wolf, the architecture of Richard Neutra, the aesthetics of friendship, the epiphanic and ecstatic. ELIZABETH MILTON is a performance and media artist who lives as a guest on the unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations in Vancouver, BC. Milton returns to NSL&G to debut Pink Noise, a performance work investigating screen space, materiality and the maximalist spectacle of video distortion.

DANIEL CODE & SEAN ARDEN, two Vancouver-based multi-disciplinary artists & friends, collaborate with ANTHEM JACKSON PRODUCTIONS to debut Forever Spaghetti, a response to the city’s shrinking cultural landscape. This interactive work immortalizes a moment in time at Nick’s Spaghetti House Restaurant (a pasta and meatball institution that has bled starchy Calabrese and Neapolitan tradition for over sixty-three years). As sterile glass and steel buildings entirely displace histories of cultural practice and community, the virtual capsule of Forever Spaghetti might become the last vestige of a world as wholesome and comforting as your mother’s old country cooking.

SARAH SHAMASH, a Vancouver-based artist and educator, returns to NSL&G to screen a new video experiment exploring a brief moment of inward reprieve amidst the humdrum of domesticity.

ALISHA WENG, a Vancouver-based interdisciplinary artist and photographer, returns to NSL&G with her sister ESTHER WENG to screen a new work inspired by a box of strangers’ memories (gleaned from the sidewalks of a changing city). The Weng sisters consider commonalities between disparate peoples, wondering if and how their paths have crossed. Stories lost and found are magnified, obscured, and reflected through the glass of the camera, revealing intimate, oblique and fragmented memories taking on new life. NEAL ROCKWELL, JORDAN MINKOFF & LEE McCLURE, three Montreal-based interdisciplinary artists and friends, screen Want, a work of experimental comedy inspired by third rate reality television. Set in the near future, Want imagines a world defined by economic precarity, in which the only chance of making a living involves broadcasting one’s daily struggles through the carnival lens of low budget spectacle.
