Jeremy Todd w/ Graham Meisner

NOT SENT LETTERS is an ongoing series of epistolary detours by Jeremy Todd — an entanglement with practices of the self, the formation of cultural memory and the limits of representation. This will be the fourth selection of letters for a performance by Jeremy, involving projected images and improvised electronic music by GRAHAM MEISNER. Bestway Studio Not Sent Letters Set (April 9, 2010):

PINK ISLAND (LEE HUTZULAK, DAVE LEITH & MADOKA HARA) & NO HITTING (JENNIFER CLARKE, ANNE COOPER & CAROLINE LIFFMAN) present a new site-specific improvisational work using synthesizers, fX pedals, various acoustic instruments, field recordings, objects amplified w/ contact mics and dance.

HEIDI NAGTEGAAL (Vancouver) and NEAL ROCKWELL (Montreal) present a new work entitled Duties. A text written by Rockwell will be jointly presented, involving a live performance by Nagtegaal and a pre-recorded digital video projection by Rockwell w/ audio. NATALIE DOONAN (a Vancouver-based artist interested in the possibilities and problems of communication, collaboration, public space, pedagogy and play) presents a new work entitled Llorando/ Crying, in which she attempts the impossible, heartrending feat of closing the chasm between you and I, through Rebekah del Rio’s Spanish rendition of Roy Orbison’s 1961 ballad. In this vocal performance, GUADALUPE MARTINEZ (a multidisciplinary Argentine artist based in Vancouver) joins her. Through her work, Martinez reflects on the various conflicts, dynamics and negotiations related to identity, gender and culture. SORESSA GARDNER (electronic music composer) and DENNIS E. BOLEN (novelist) allow new approaches toward language and music to meet in their collaboration Kaspoit!. Bolen’s novel puts speculative illustration to some of the most brutal Western Canada crimes of the recent past. It is a pure exploration of the ‘banality of evil’, chilling and outrageous. Kaspoit!, the composition, builds a sound world around excerpts of dialogue and collected neologisms from the novel to support the atmosphere of the story. The work also includes urban images by videographer CLANCY DENNEHEY.
