Description & History

Not Sent Letters is an ongoing series of epistolary detours by Jeremy Todd (from unceeded Coast Salish territory, Vancouver, BC, Canada).

Not Sent Letters is an entanglement with the politics of representation, technologies of the self and the formation of cultural memory.

Not Sent Letters Project utilizes an image/text online blog structure, multi-media reading performance works, cooperatively realized public events and digital film shorts.

Not Sent Letters is a multiplicity wrestling poeticism.

Not Sent Letters is art for life.

Not Sent Letters resists hegemonic acculturation.

Not Sent Letters continues.

Not Sent Letters Project began in 2005 with a blog. Digital film shorts based on the resulting image/text posts (or Not Sent Letters) became another ongoing aspect of the project by 2008.  Two feature-length experimental films have also been initiated by Not Sent Letters so far.  Not Sent Letter Sets were first realized in 2009, integrating image projection, staging, music scores and play with live readings of selected Not Sent Letters.  Recurring co-operative and non-funded events have followed (Not Sent Letters & Guests), presenting the work of others in conjunction with Not Sent Letter Sets.

NOT SENT LETTERS & GUESTS

Not Sent Letters & Guests form public constellations of engaged interdisciplinary and durational practice, uncompromised by the realpolitik conditions of contemporary art as a competitive professional sphere.

Not Sent Letter performance works (or Sets) were first realized in 2009, integrating image projection, staging, music scores and play with live readings of selected Not Sent Letters.  Recurring co-operative and non-funded events have followed (Not Sent Letters & Guests), presenting the work of others in conjunction with Not Sent Letter Sets.

Artist Jeremy Todd organizes each event as an extension of his continuous Not Sent Letters Project (from unceeded Coast Salish territory, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada). The interrelatedness of art, society and everyday life is critically explored amongst a diverse plurality of artists and publics.

Email Jeremy Todd (jeremytodd@notsentlettersproject.com) if you would like to host and/or contribute to a future Not Sent Letters & Guests event.
